“We have a great story to tell, and I’m happy to do my small part in helping to move that forward.”
I started Resource Smart in 2013 to focus on projects that support Delmarva and Mid-Atlantic farmers in improving the economic and environmental sustainability of their farms.
I studied Environmental Science at Rutgers University, and I started work after college with the Chesapeake Bay Program’s Modeling Team. I moved to Delaware in 2003 to work as an Ag Conservation Planner for the Sussex Conservation District. Putting those experiences together, I found that there’s a lot of potential for water quality improvements where we engage farmers and their expertise in developing solutions, and that those solutions will be most successful when they benefit both the environment and farming operations.
Sustainable agricultural production is the “what” in my work, and my connection to members of my community and our shared natural resources is the “why”. I provide coordination for partnerships, outreach events and other efforts that help to provide farmers with the knowledge that they need to develop the right management strategies for their individual operations. Sometimes my work also involves grant writing, graphic design and website development. While our agricultural production here makes up only a small portion of our nation’s food supply, our farmers are leaders in producing food while also working to restore water quality in our local bays and tributaries. We have a great story to tell, and I’m happy to do my small part in helping to move that forward.
